We're going on a dinosaur hunt......

We went to The Dinosaur Park at Tenby today.
This wasn't our first choice but more of an accident. The place we had hoped to go to was closed! Luckily, the Dinosaurs were just down the road.

The boys had a great time. We went for a walk through the woods and spotted a number of lifesize dinosaurs
(and you thought they were extinct!). Smithy and I did a quiz on the way round. Then we had lunch in the small cafe. There was a big play area, with climbing frames and a number of ride ons. The diggers proved very popular with Ben needing no help from Smithy at all! Then they both had a ride on battery powered cars which was very funny.

The Astraslide was also a hit with both of them, although Ben wanted to go down the slide on his own! We retreated indoors to warm up abit and play in the soft play area and yet another big climbing frame.

We finally left at nearly 5pm and drove back to Old Oak Barn via Saundersfoot to go and have a look at the beach. More sand - fantastic! We spent a good half hour playing on the beach and building yet another sandcastle.

We called in at the Curry house on the way back and got dinner. The boys were very late to bed, but I think they had a good day and probably dreamt about dinosaurs!

Back to Pembrey

James on the zip line! Posted by Picasa

As we had such a brilliant time yesterday, we went back to Pembrey Country Park today - the weather wasn't quite so favourable however. We started at the adventure play area first. The boys had a great time on the climbing frames and slides. James and I followed some old railway tracks through the woods. Then we went back to the Ski Centre for lunch. It was busier than yesterday. Following lunch (very nice again!), Smithy took the boys back on the toboggan. James was after fastest time of the day, I reckon.

We went back to check out the beach but it was much too windy - the wind was coming straight off the sea. It felt bitter. We decided to head off in the car and drove to Burry Port to see if the beach there was more sheltered. Alas, no. After a very blustery walk along the harbour, we decided to quit and head back to the barn. Both boys fell asleep in the car, so it was the right decision!

We had a great hide and seek game when we got back, but as you can see from the picture of Ben, it's very easy to overdo things!

We went to the beach today!

Having fun on the beach Posted by Picasa

We have had a fantastic day at Pembrey Country Park. The weather has been beautiful; very sunny and a cloudless sky. It even felt warm (once you could get out of the breeze!).

We got to the park at about 11ish and went to the Visitor Centre to buy another spade. Two buckets, two more spades and a frizbee later, we hit the beach. Much digging took place in the sand! After a while, we headed off to the Dry Ski Slope for lunch. There is a small "restaurant" there, and the food was really good. Ben and James stuffed themselves and had an ice cream each.

Smithy and the boys then had a go on the toboggan - see the pictures! We then went back to the beach and did some further digging and went to find the sea. The boys got rather wet - Ben fell over and got very wet trousers. Neither was wearing waterproofs or wellies! We headed back to the dry sand and found an area out of the wind. More play!

Finally, we went to the Adventure playarea in the woods. James met another little boy called Gwillam and they played together. Eventually, about 4.45pm we went back to the car. James had a tumble and grazed his left palm.

We stopped off at Safeway in Carmarthen for two reasons.

  1. No wine!
  2. The boys were falling asleep in the car!

We finally made it back to the barn. Ben and James had two enormous bowls of pasta, pesto and bacon. They looked shattered! A quick bath followed and then bed - both were very tired!

A good day!

Folly Farm

Today we have been to Folly Farm which is about 30 minutes from the barn.

It was sunny but cold, with a biting wind. We got there about 11am, not really knowing what to expect. We weren't disappointed as there was so much to do! There is a children's farm with goats, sheep etc.and events in the barn such as feeding and milking the goats. Then there is a small zoo - saw some zebras and llama! There is a play area both inside and outside and finally there is an indoor funfair. We had lunch next to the indoor funfair (gave us an excuse to warm up).

James and Ben loved the indoor funfair and we went on a number of rides including the carosel and the jets (very scary for mummy!). They also spent ages playing on a number of outdoor climbing frames - great fun! There were two wooden climbing frames and then, in a different area, some wooden pirate ships! We even had a walk around the zoo (while Benny had a snooze) and saw the fam animals too. We didn't leave until 5ish so it was a very full day!

Old Oak Barn

This is where we are staying - Old Oak Barn. It's the single storey building on the left hand side of the group. I will post more pictures of the interior, which is lovely!

Update: Boys asleep - tired after a busy day on the beach!
